Utøya Massacres: Solidarity for the victims in Copenhagen

Original article : Roskilde University, Papaya magazine, Spring 2011: www.thepapayamag.com

The Utøya massacres left an indelible mark on the hearts of all of Europe and will never be forgotten. The solidarity shown by Norway and indeed by Scandinavia in the wake of it all is however heartwarming and serves as a reminder of the better nature of man. Immediately after the disaster, members of RUC’s International Club comittee together with several other sympathisers organised a march through Copenhagen to pay tribute to the victims and kin of those afflicted in the terrorist attacks in Utøya and Oslo. Over 5000 people turned up for the event held in the centre of Copenhagen.  Candles were lit, flowers laid, tears shed and solidarity shown for Norway at her time of need. What started as a small intention on the part of the IC commitee members snowballed into an en-masse show of solidarity.  Thanks to everyone who showed up and showed their support
